Chocolate: The Exhibition

To gear up for the arrival of Henry Ford Museum's summer exhibit, Chocolate: The Exhibition, The Henry Ford is hosting a chocolate cake bake-off contest, with the winner's recipe to be featured in the Henry Ford Museum's Chocolate Café for the run of the exhibition, May 31-September 7, 2008.
Contestants are invited to enter their best chocolate cake recipes, April 15-May 15, 2008, by emailing publicrelations@thehenryford.org. Four finalists will be chosen and invited to participate in a live competition in Henry Ford Museum on May 29, when a panel of local celebrity judges will taste all four entries and select the winning recipe. Chocolate: The Exhibition a fully bilingual exhibit, with texts in Spanish and English opens May 31, 2008 in Henry Ford Museum and blends interactive displays, artifacts, and familiar pop culture icons to examine the plant, the products, the history, and the culture of chocolate through the lenses of botany and ecology, anthropology and economics, conservation and popular culture.
Exclusive to this exhibit at Henry Ford Museum is a specific exploration of chocolate and America, illustrated through historic and modern chocolate molds, vintage advertisements, and early products that introduced chocolate to the masses. Visitors will also see replica seed pods of rainforest cacao trees, ancient pottery and jewelry from Mayan religious ceremonies incorporating chocolate, mock Aztec marketplaces where cacao beans were used as currency, elegant silver and porcelain services for wealthy Europeans to savor their chocolate, and the tools of manufacturing and harvesting cacao in today's global economy.
