October 17th
In its second concert of the season, Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings' Nightnotes series presents violinist Adrienne Ronmark and cellist Debra Fayroian as teh dynamic, mother-daughter team, the Gamar Duo. Held in the unique and intimate setting of Hagopian World of Rugs in downtown Birmingham on October 17. A complimentary reception will precede the concert, beginning at 8 p.m.
Ronmark and Fayroian represent two generations of Detroit Symphony Orchestra string players. Fayroian, a native Detroiter and highly acclaimed cellist and pedagogue, began her career with the DSO in 1975, after leaving her post as Principal Cellist of the Toledo Symphony. Her recent retirement from the Orchestra has closely coincided with the begining of her daughter's tenure there. Ronmark, the newest member of the DSO, joins the Orchestra after leaving her post as Associate Concermaster of the Ann Arbor Symphony.
Fayroian and Ronmark will perform Bohuslav Martinu's Duo No. 2pour Violon et Violoncelle, written only a year before the Czech composer's death in 1959. A prolific composer, Martinu's numerous and varied influences included jazz, Czech folk tunes, and later, the Neoclassicism movement. Also in store for the evening is Ravel's beautiful Sonate pour Violon et Violoncelle, completed in 1920 and dedicated to the composer's contemporary, Claude Debussy.
Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased online at www.detroitchamberwinds.org, or by calling 248-559-2095. Tickets will also be available at the door for and additional $5 per ticket.
Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings is an ensamble made up primarily of musicians from the Detroit Symphony and Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestras. In addition to the Nightnotes concerts, DCWS presents an annual, nine-concert subscription series.
