    The holidays are just around the corner and there are many local non-profit organizations who are seeking help. The volunteer opportunities are endless. You can help coordinate an Adopt a Family program, deliver food boxes to the needy, or perfectly gift wrap presents. Below is a list of places to volunteer. Some of these opportunities are for the holidays and others can be all year round. 

    • Community Housing Network needs volunteers for their Adopt a Family program. They need assistance for donor coordination, data entry, shopping, gift wrapping, and pickup and delivery scheduling for the food.

    • Focus HOPE needs volunteers to help deliver boxes of nutritionally-balanced food to the nearly 10,000 low-income senior citizens who have no transportation or are otherwise unable to pick up food from our food centers.

    • Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund Detroit needs volunteers for their "No kiddie without a Christmas" program.  They're looking for their volunteers that can assists in the Doll Program. Goodfellow provide undressed dolls and volunteers provide clothing and accessories for it. Dolls are distributed in May and returned to the Goodfellows in October or November for packaging and distribution to girls 4 years old through 10 years old during the holiday season. Dolls are 13" tall.

    • Salvation Army is looking for people to get their bells on this holiday season. They want to fill 50,000 two-hour shifts across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties.  This position starts on November 13 through December 24.

    • Judson Center is seeking compassionate individuals to help during these times of joy like this Holiday Season. They need volunteers that are willing to give their time and talent in Judson Center corporate office and giving a morning or an afternoon helping with intake of gifts.

    • Children and Family Services are looking for volunteers for their Operation Good Cheer program.  Every year they put together a Christmas gift giving program for children in foster care.

    • The Lighthouse of Oakland County Thanksgiving and Holiday Programs are seeking a number of volunteers to help ensure families in need will not be forgotten during these special days of the year. The Thanksgiving effort requires volunteers the beginning of October through the week of Thanksgiving. The Holiday Adopt-A-Family program needs your help October 5 through December 22.

    • First Step Western Wayne County Project on Domestic Assault need volunteers in various areas like the Assault Response Team, Provide support at our emergency shelter, help with day to day operations at the office, accompany individuals to court, help with special projects, and spreading the word about First Step Services.
