GDABVI Accessible Voter Training

  • Source: WWJ

September 25th thru October 8th

As we enter this important fall election season, the Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired (GDABVI) will be in the community to teach those with severe vision loss learn how to vote without second-party assistance. Agency staff will be available to instruct voters with severe vision loss and other disabilities how to use the AutoMARK voting machine, which provides these voters with the opportunity to mark a ballot independently at their local polling place.

The Help America Vote Act of 2002 mandates that accessible voting equipment must be furnished in polling places throughout the country. In the state of Michigan, all polling places should have what is known as the ES&S AutoMARK voter assist terminal, which is designed to help those who are disabled to vote with the same privacy and independence as those without disabilities.

Contact 313-272-3900 to schedule a training session at the Wayne County Regional Library for the Blind.
