RESEARCH DIRECTOR
WWJTV CBS & WKBD TV CW50 Detroit has an exciting opportunity for a Television Research Director for our duopoly stations.   This position oversees all research related functions including: interpreting & understanding research products from Nielsen, LPM's, Scarborough, Adviews, R.L. Polk and other sales tools.  Candidates should have significant knowledge of and experience with using research to expand the sales and marketing effectiveness of our television station brands in the marketplace.  Key to this position is the daily interaction with the Account Executives, Sales Management, New Business Development Manager and Sales Marketing Manager to build research stories to support increased revenues and market share growth.   Critical to this position is the job of taking a leadership role in the market by being a member of the ad community and going on sales calls to key clients with AE's and Sales Management. Other responsibilities include: corporate reporting, daily management of data bases.

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Two to three years previous research experience in the broadcast arena required.

MORNING WEATHER ANCHOR/INTERNET EDITOR
WWJTV, Detroit's CBS Television Station has an opening for the position of Morning Meteorologist/Traffic Anchor.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced on-air Meteorologist to anchor morning weather and traffic.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Present Weather and Traffic information on-air with understanding and confidence
  • Prepare and coordinate on-air material  
  • Ensure that daily show production deadlines are met
  • Monitor morning weather and traffic conditions
  • Contribute story ideas for website and update web content
  • Work with Director of Digital Media to ensure quality of web content

Successful candidate must be:

  • Innovative, organized, and results-oriented
  • Must have strong knowledge of local and national weather
  • Must have strong knowledge of the Detroit Metropolitan Area
  • Must possess the ability to assemble high quality video and editorial content for on-air and web
  • Ability to write and edit broadcast/web copy
  • Appear comfortable on camera
  • Ability to work under pressure of strict deadlines
  • Must demonstrate leadership and people skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • On-Air traffic and weather anchoring/producing experience, preferably three years in top 20 market
  • Degree in Meteorology or similar field preferred
  • Web producing/editing experience a plus
  • Some working knowledge and conceptual understanding of internet terminology and technologies a plus
  • Available to work Monday – Friday

DUOPOLY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
WWJTV CBS Detroit & WKBD TV CW50 Detroit has an opening for a Duopoly Business Development Manager who is a force of nature in the television sales arena.  We are looking for someone who is not just forward thinking, but forward doing.  Someone of fearless vision and abundant enthusiasm.

This person will lead all duopoly Account Executives in their efforts to develop new direct and new sports revenue for both stations.  Manage, develop and implement sales strategy programs and initiatives to maximize station profits including National Sales.  Duopoly Sales Manager is expected to have quantifiable impact on business development within our ad agencies as well.  Identifies new business opportunities and leads the team in an effort to generate new and non-traditional revenue for the stations.  Develop specific promotional projects ideally suited to garner new business revenue.

Must be extremely organized.  Must have proven new business as well as agency business television development, negotiation, and closing skills.  Requires a complete understanding of the Nielsen ratings system and LPMs.  Previous broadcast television management experience as an LSM or NSM preferred. Three (3) years local TV broadcast sales experience with a successful record of developing new and non-traditional revenue is required. Knowledge of the Detroit Metropolitan broadcast sales market is preferred.  Digital Media expertise desired.  Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred.

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

We are looking for someone who can sell this station's commercial inventory to advertising agencies, retailers, manufacturers, and distributors and effectively market the station to current and potential clients.  Will also focus on new business development for the station.  Strong presentation and negotiation skills a must.  Ideal candidate will be detail oriented, creative, energetic and driven to succeed. Degree preferred.  Two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Market experience preferred. WWJTV Intern Positions for College Credit

Requirements
- Interns must spend a minimum of 20 hours per week at the station.
Internships are scheduled Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30a.m.
and 5:30p.m. Some departments may require occasional weekend work.
- A statement from the educational institution and advisor verifying credit will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.
- Interns should be at least a Junior or Senior in college.
- Internships are non-paid for credit only.

Creative Services Assistant Intern:
Assist Creative Services Director and Promotion Specialist with filing, copying, and other miscellaneous office work. Will assist with co-op reimbursement. Will help with contests, promotions, and events. Will write and edit entertainment vignettes to air on WWJTV Detroit Programming. Writes movie descriptions. Helps with pre-production of promotional announcements. Knowledge of Avid and/or Final Cut Pro a plus. Assists Programming Department. (Maximum 2)

Commercial Production Intern:
The intern will work as a P.A. on all commercial shoots. Could be used as talent in commercials. Will write the community calendar scripts, attend client meetings, and sit in on edit sessions. Possibility of some commercial and PSA writing. Will make VHS dubs for Account Executives and recycles tape stock. (Maximum 2)

Design Intern:
The intern will assist designers in creation of graphic elements needed for production, such as capturing video, cutting out digital images, or setting type. Will work independently on short-term projects, which may involve producing, layered Photoshop files, or formatting for the Internet. Will prepare logos with alpha channels as needed for commercial production. Will perform additional duties such as archiving, paper or art-board cutouts, mounting, etc.

Sales & Marketing Intern:
The intern will assist the sales staff by gathering and organizing sales leads from various media sources. He/she will also be included on appropriate sales calls and client meetings. The intern will assist those coordinating marketing projects like ticket drops, movie screenings, and special events. He/she will participate in scheduled marketing events as well as creative brainstorming sessions for new sales/marketing opportunities. The intern will also be given the opportunity to observe or assist with commercial production projects. He/she may be given the opportunity to work on the creation of sales or marketing materials for the sales staff. Researches information for the Sales/Marketing Departments.

Community Affairs Intern:
- Public Service Announcement screening
- Maintenance of community leader files
- Topic research and development
- Assist in community leader group contact - Assist in preparation of monthly report
- General administrative
- Production Assistant for Community Affairs Talk Show including
logging tapes, man on the street interviews, and confirms guests for the show.
- May write community calendar.

Sports Production Intern:
Will assist the Executive Producer on all sports production activities including off-site shoots for Michigan Golf Weekly and Lions Football shoots; take notes and log information for the editor; coordinate press photos; assist with scripts on the Michigan Golf Weekly productions; coordinate talent and production crew schedules; screen tapes for highlights for the weekly shows; help crew with equipment; collect research for the writing assignments; will work closely with videographer/editor. The intern will need to be available 3 to 4 days per week. This is a seasonal internship working the summer months only, May through August.

Research & Archive Intern:
Individual must be willing to learn the I-News archiving system, write and prepare an information sheet for the reference packet. Transfer video b-roll from DVC Pro tapes to External Drives, Beta tapes, etc. while simultaneously creating a list of the logged b-roll. Assist with bulking nonusable PSA and other Beta tapes. Assist in the purging of various PSA's out of I-News. Research information, as needed, for upcoming StreetBeat and/or Michigan Matters Shows. Create list of roll that should be included or updated based on information provided by producers. Coordinate scheduling of roll EFPs.
